Guide
How it works
Use this calculator to estimate trades needed to rebalance a portfolio.
What this calculator does
The portfolio rebalancing calculator compares current holdings with target allocations and estimates buy or sell amounts.
Rebalancing Formula
Trade Amount = Target Dollar Amount - Current Dollar Amount
Positive values mean buy more. Negative values mean reduce that holding.
Example calculation
If a portfolio has too much stock exposure relative to the target, the calculator shows how much stock value to reduce and where to add.
When to use this calculator
- annual or quarterly rebalancing
- adjusting risk
- planning new contributions
- checking drift from target allocation
FAQs
Do I have to sell to rebalance?
Not always. New contributions can sometimes bring the portfolio closer to target.
